The Center for Civil Liberties trains human rights defenders in various forms all year round. At a recent training, I held a lesson on the topic of "Political Motives for Criminal Prosecution." What was the most interesting, judging by the questions from the audience? It turns out that the authorities can persecute not only an opposition politician, journalist, or human rights defender for political reasons. It is not at all necessary to stand at the barricade for you to be illegally persecuted. A completely apolitical banker or entrepreneur from another sphere can be the object of politically motivated prosecution. Are there such cases in Ukraine? Yes, there are. Is an examination of political motives important for obtaining asylum abroad? Yes, it is very important. Especially in cases where the person managed to leave before being thrown behind bars...
